Helton

Happy Independance Day! Today we are open from 8am-12pm with a rolling schedule, meaning you can come in any time you wish. The last time to start will be 11:15am so we can close the doors by noon.
The Hero WOD today hits close to home as Michelle Bonkoski served side by side with LT Helton as his First Sergeant. I asked her to write up a little something to share with us all.  Thank you all for your Hero suggestions, I’ll sneak them all in over the next few weeks also thank you Michelle for sharing your story.

1LT Joseph D. Helton Jr was born on 30 September 1984 in Milton, FL.  He was a 2007 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.  Lt Helton deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 732nd Security Forces Squadron, Police Transition Team.  Lt Helton was due to leave Iraq in August 2009 however, the inbound unit was short one officer because of an injury that kept that person from deploying.  Lt Helton volunteered to stay and while on patrol his vehicle was struck by an EFP.  Lt Helton gave his life for our country on 8 September 2009.  He was a great officer and person, I lucky to know him and serve with him as the first sergeant.  Lt Helton’s favorite saying, “Don’t be a weaksauce”, seems appropriate today.
