Trapped

So we deadlifted a whole bunch over the past few days thanks to 16.4. I would say a large population of the gym came away with backs that were on fire. Now I have a few theories on why and I will share them with you all. The first reason I witnessed was not setting up your deadlift anywhere near where you are supposed to. We top load our deadlifts and we’ve been doing this for over 3 years now. It’s no secret. We preach it, demonstrate it. drill it and then watch it totally ignored it once the 3,2,1 happens. We do not tell you this for our health we tell you this for yours. Trust me when I tell you we do not want injuries, ever. This is why myself and other coaches at CFGB are kinda known as harsh when we coach. We are not intending to be harsh but at the same time we want it fixed and fixed now. Putting out members with back injuries or any injury for that fact is not good for business. The next theory I believe is the greatest benefactor to your achy backs. Let’s compare each pull of your row to lifting a 95lb deadlift. Let’s say it takes you 50 pulls to get 500m that’s 50 deadlifts at 95lb. Now pulling a deadlift 50 times at 95lb with a nice square back and good pull is the key to a relatively light and very safe workout on that back. Now take that same deadlift and pick it up 50 times with a rounded back. I promise you that you are going to be laid out on the ground with back pain like you’ve never seen before. Every time you row with your hips in front of your shoulders that is exactly what you are doing. Both of these issues are fixed very easily, by listening to us and making the correction instead of totally zoning out and continuing on your course of destruction. Don’t waste your money at this gym if you are not going to listen to us. If a coach shows you how to top load that deadlift and how to return it to the ground safely do your best to make those corrections every time you touch that bar. If a coach is telling you to keep your hips behind you while rowing don’t just ignore them, fix it. Once again, WE ARE NOT SHARING THIS INFORMATION WITH YOU FOR FUNSIES, WE WANT TO MAKE YOU BETTER and better is never being hurt. In closing I do understand that we get lazy when we become exhausted. Maybe lazy isn’t the right word but it’ll have to do. Getting sloppy happens and that is what makes CrossFit so cool you have coaches constantly working with you to make that sloppiness disappear with cues to help you succeed. Listen to your coach at all times and while you might not agree with them they are your mirror, a talking mirror at that. We push hard at CFGB and when you go as hard as we do, to have a good no bullshit coach is vital to your success and overall health.
Love,
Grant
